Studying microstructure and microstructural changes in plant tissues by advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging techniques
As sessile organisms, plants must respond to the environment by adjusting their growth and development. Most of the plant body is formed post-embryonically by continuous activity of apical and lateral meristems. The development of lateral adventitious roots is a complex process, and therefore the development of methods that can visualize, non-invasively, the plant microstructure and organ initi...
متن کاملHigh-resolution three-dimensional imaging of plant tissues.
The study of plant development relies on techniques for the accurate visualization of plant tissue structure to understand cell patterning and patterns of gene expression. Current techniques for threedimensional (3D) imaging are limited with respect to the thickness of tissue that may be studied and the resolution that may be achieved. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) of living plant t...
متن کاملHigh-sensitivity fluorescence imaging of iron in plant tissues.
Here, we report a method for high-sensitivity fluorescence imaging of iron, which demonstrates the abundance and distribution of iron in plant tissues more precisely than conventional histochemical staining procedures. The fluorescence turn-on method is rapid (<20 min), inexpensive to set up, and expected to be readily applicable to any plant tissues.
متن کاملHigh resolution mass spectrometry imaging of plant tissues: towards a plant metabolite atlas.
Mass spectrometry (MS) imaging provides spatial and molecular information for a wide range of compounds. This tool can be used to investigate metabolic changes in plant physiology and environmental interactions. A major challenge in our study was to prepare tissue sections that were compatible with high spatial resolution analysis and therefore dedicated sample preparation protocols were establ...
متن کاملDiffusion of Gases through Plant Tissues : Entry of Acetylene into Legume Nodules.
I have measured acetylene diffusion through plant tissues including nodules from several species of legume-vetch, peas, soybeans, and Sesbania rostrata. The observed half-time for reequilibration of internal and external concentration is less than 1 minute for typical nodules. Inward diffusion of acetylene in air is rapid relative to the use of acetylene by nitrogenase so that diffusion of acet...
